In this article Carol Chute reflects on how she tries to get writing done, but everything around her is keeping her from doing so. Carol typewriter was calling for her but everytime she wanted to attend to it someone was either coming over her house for some advice, or the dogs were barking at anybody that came to the door. Hemingway thought “sitting too much will kill you.” Hemingway “ he would stand at his typewriter at a desk overflowing with books and notes and write first on paper attached to clipboard.” Hemingway of writing was to “captured each day on a large cardboard chart placed below a mounted gazelle head.” As a college student I have been facing many challenges when writing a paper. I Tend to still struggle with grammar, and knowing when and where to put my commons. I had to write a cartoon editorial essay and it was not easy for me. I constantly was distracted by trying to write an introduction to each paragraph and then write 5 to 6 sentences on what the introduction was about. I believe I can become a better writer I just need to know how to become a better writer. If I read more I can definitely become a better writer. I’m always thinking I just don’t write it down all the time. You have to be a logical thinker at times and that’s what I’m working on now. It just doesn’t come natural, you have to put in some effort in becoming a better writer. I want to start analyzing and digging deeper in my writing. One way to avoid distraction is finding a quiet room at home that has window to maybe help you think and gather your thoughts more clearly. Balance a healthy meals. Try at least to get 8hrs of sleep. Read on some books that talks about “How to avoid being distracted while trying to become a better writer.” Carry a notebook that you would like to write in, that can distract you from getting on your cell phone or computer. Maybe try taking daily walks get your mind right. Don’t forget to take care of your priorities first. There are many ways to avoid distractions, you just have to find what works for you. Hemingway said, “If a writer stops observing he is finished.”
